Ames Conservative Breakfast To Discuss Education and US Senate Race

The monthly Ames Area Conservative Breakfast is set for Thursday, November 7th from 7 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. at Pizza Ranch, 1400 Boston, Ames.

This month it is our pleasure to have as one of our guest speakers, Dr. Brad Buck, newly appointed director of the Iowa Department of Education.  Dr. Buck is a longtime educator and school administrator, born and raised in Cedar Rapids.

Buck began his career in education in 1992 as a middle school science teacher in the Ankeny Community School District. He taught for five years before taking on a number of administrative roles in the Waukee, Hudson, and North Mahaska school districts. Most recently, Dr. Buck was superintendent of the Saydel Community School District in Des Moines.
Dr. Buck is a former president of School Administrators of Iowa and has held positions on various state-level committees and initiatives.  They include Collaborating for Iowa’s Kids, a joint effort by the Iowa Department of Eduction, the Area Education Agencies, and school districts to support and scale up evidence-based literacy practices across the state.
Buck is a graduate of Iowa State University, where he received a Ph.D. and a masters degree, and the University of Northern  Iowa, where he received a bachelor’s degree in biology.
He lives in Urbandale with his wife, Traci, and their six children.
Our second speaker will be Sam Clovis, candidate for the U.S. Senate.
Sam is a graduate of the US Air Force Academy where he earned a degree in Political Science. He later earned a MBA from Golden Gate University and a Doctorate in Public Administration from the University of Alabama.
Sam served 25 years in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot and served in the Pentagon and the Middle East. He retired as a full colonel and Inspector General of NORAD and the US Space Command. During his time in uniform, he graduated from the Armed Forces Staff College, Air War College and the Army War College.
After he retired from the Air force, he became a successful business executive for several companies within the defense industry. Sam led creative endeavors in computer based education, war gaming, cyber security, and immigration reform.
In 2000, Sam entered the world of academia, and currently is Chair of the Department of Business Administration and Economics at Morningside College.  He recently left the broadcast booth where he hosted a daily radio talk show.

US Senate Candidates To Debate

The Iowa chapter of Americans For Prosperity along with National Review will present a debate between the Republican candidates for US Senate in Iowa.

The event is set for Wednesday, October 23 at Sheslow Auditorium, located at 2507 University Avenue in Des Moines.  Doors will open for seating at 5:30 pm and attendees must be seated by 6:45 pm.  Opening remarks will begin at 7 pm.

Sam Clovis, Joni Ernst, Scott Schaben, Matt Whitaker, David Young, and Paul Lunde are expected to participate.

October Central Committee Meeting

The next meeting of the Story County Republican Central Committee will be October 21st at 7:00 PM at the Oakwood Road Community Center, located at 2400 Oakwood Road in Ames. We will be reviewing the overwhelming success of the Wendy Jensen Chili Supper and discussing locations for the upcoming precinct caucuses. Hope you will join us!!!
