Ames, IA – The Republican Party of Story County’s Central Committee adopted a resolution at their March 18 meeting dealing with the crisis along our southern border. The resolution as adopted states, “The Story County, Iowa, Republican Party Central Committee expresses disappointment that twelve Republican senators voted against the President’s National Security Resolution and affirms the President’s veto of the Senate’s opposition to its passage.” A copy of the resolution will be sent to President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Iowa’s two Republican Senators, Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, supported the president’s position in the Senate.

Those that spoke in support of the resolution noted recent polling showing approval of President Trump’s actions by 89% (the Economist) and 86% (Monmouth University) of Republicans and that the Congressionally approved National Emergencies Act of 1976 giving Presidents emergency powers has been invoked 58 times without a senatorial challenge.
